TEHRAN, June 29, 2026 — Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has called on the country’s judiciary to pursue legal action against the United States and Israel over what he described as “child killings” and “war crimes” committed during recent military conflicts.
In a written message released on Sunday to mark Judiciary Week and the anniversary of the 1981 bombing that killed senior Iranian officials, Khamenei said that seeking justice for the victims should be among Iran’s highest legal priorities. The statement was published through his official X account and carried by Iranian state media.
Khamenei alleged that civilian casualties, attacks on medical facilities, and psychological harm suffered by Iranians during the conflicts constitute legal cases that should be pursued in both domestic and international courts. He also referred to the killing of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei, saying those responsible must be held accountable.
According to his statement, remarks made by some US and Israeli leaders regarding the conflict amount to admissions that could strengthen Iran’s legal case. He urged judicial authorities to continue investigations until legal judgments are reached, arguing that accountability would help prevent similar incidents in the future.
The comments come as tensions remain high following months of military confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Despite diplomatic efforts, including Pakistan-mediated negotiations aimed at reducing hostilities, reports indicate that fresh exchanges of attacks and accusations have continued in recent days.
No immediate response from US or Israeli officials was included in the reports.
