Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the ongoing Iran–United States peace process, stressing that future negotiations must be guided by dialogue, diplomacy, and vigilance against efforts to undermine regional stability.

The understanding came during a warm telephone conversation between the two leaders following the signing of the historic “Islamabad Peace Deal,” a diplomatic agreement aimed at ending months of conflict between Washington and Tehran.

Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated the Saudi crown prince on the breakthrough and expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives. He praised the Kingdom’s leadership and its commitment to promoting stability in the region, noting that cooperation from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states played an important role in advancing the negotiations.

According to official statements, the memorandum of understanding was electronically signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with Prime Minister Shehbaz signing as mediator on behalf of Pakistan. The agreement entered into force ahead of its originally scheduled signing ceremony.

Under the framework, the United States and Iran have agreed to pursue negotiations on key outstanding issues over the coming weeks while working toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz and consolidating the ceasefire.

Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia emphasized that the next phase of talks should continue through peaceful engagement and constructive diplomacy. The two leaders also agreed on the importance of remaining alert to any attempts that could derail the peace process.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed satisfaction with the strong state of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations and said both countries were looking to deepen their economic partnership through a comprehensive package under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He also extended an invitation for the Saudi crown prince to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.

Meanwhile, follow-up negotiations that were expected to take place in Switzerland involving the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan were postponed, although Swiss authorities indicated they remain ready to facilitate future discussions when rescheduled.

The latest developments underscore Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement in regional affairs and highlight the close coordination between Islamabad and Riyadh in support of dialogue, stability, and peaceful conflict resolution.
