US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Washington will not take any actions that could weaken the security of its partners in the Gulf region, as the United States continues working on implementing a new agreement with Iran.

During a visit to Kuwait City as part of a regional diplomatic tour, Rubio emphasized that the United States remains committed to its long-standing alliances in the Gulf. He told reporters that Washington intends to stay fully coordinated with regional partners despite ongoing negotiations with Tehran.

His visit also included stops in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, where discussions focused on easing concerns over the new US–Iran understanding.

The agreement, described as the first major diplomatic deal between the two countries in decades, reportedly outlines plans for a large financial framework and includes relief from certain sanctions. However, it has sparked concern among Gulf states, which view Iran as a destabilizing force in the region.

Rubio defended the diplomatic effort, saying the United States is open to reaching a lasting and practical arrangement with Iran, while also warning that Washington would adjust its approach if Tehran fails to cooperate.

Officials from both the US and Iran are expected to continue technical-level talks in the coming weeks, with further meetings likely to take place in Switzerland as details of the agreement are finalized.
