ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and Iran on Friday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and jointly combat terrorism, as leaders from both countries met in Islamabad amid renewed efforts to bolster regional stability.

During a meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the two sides vowed to enhance cooperation in security, trade, and energy, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office.

“Both countries condemn state-sponsored terrorism and have always supported each other in the wake of unilateral aggression against their sovereign states,” the statement quoted Sharif as saying. He added that Pakistan and Iran, both victims of terrorism, shared a firm resolve for global peace, prosperity, and regional cooperation.

Sharif extended his respects to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, noting the historic friendship between the neighboring Muslim nations. The two leaders also reaffirmed their shared vision for the unity of the Muslim Ummah and peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

Ghalibaf, who is leading a high-level parliamentary delegation, expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its “valued and well-placed support” during the recent Iran-Israel conflict, describing Islamabad’s stance as deeply appreciated by the Iranian people. “Iran and Pakistan firmly believe in the unity of the Muslim Ummah and in the message of global peace,” he said.

The Iranian speaker also praised the cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures and expressed Tehran’s readiness to further expand ties in economic development and trade. He delivered a message of goodwill from President Pezeshkian to Prime Minister Sharif and thanked Pakistan for its warm hospitality.

The meeting comes just months after President Pezeshkian’s August visit to Pakistan, during which both sides signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering areas including trade, energy, and border management — signaling a broader effort to deepen regional connectivity and mutual cooperation.
