Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of crude oil from the United States, marking a new chapter in the country’s energy diversification efforts and trade relations with Washington.

The shipment, carrying one million barrels of US crude supplied by global commodities trader Vitol, arrived this week aboard the Suezmax vessel MT Pegasus. The tanker docked at Cnergyico PK Limited’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) terminal, located off the coast of Balochistan, the country’s only offshore crude-handling facility.

“This first shipment will be followed by another in mid-November and a third in January 2026,” said Usama Qureshi, Vice Chairman of Cnergyico PK Limited. “Collectively, these three cargoes are expected to improve Pakistan’s trade balance with the United States by around $200 million.”

Qureshi said the SPM facility enables the handling of large vessels, reducing logistics costs and enhancing refinery operations. He added that the move would diversify Pakistan’s crude supply sources and strengthen bilateral trade ties.

“The arrival of Pakistan’s first-ever US crude oil cargo marks an important milestone for the country’s energy sector and for Cnergyico,” Qureshi said. “These imports not only diversify Pakistan’s crude supply but also contribute to the country’s long-term energy security.”

Cnergyico had previously imported the country’s first private-sector shipment of Russian crude oil in 2023, capitalizing on discounted rates offered by Moscow. The company ordered a second US crude shipment in September after finding the debut purchase commercially viable, paving the way for additional imports in the coming months.

The arrival of US crude comes as Pakistan seeks to broaden its energy sources amid global market volatility and regional supply challenges.
