Kabul, Afghanistan — October 10, 2025:
Two powerful explosions shook central Kabul, the Afghan capital, late on Thursday night, witnesses and journalists reported.

According to AFP correspondents, the blasts occurred around 9:50 p.m. local time (10:20 p.m. PKT) and were heard across several parts of the city. Following the explosions, security forces were deployed throughout Kabul, searching vehicles and blocking off several main roads, particularly in the Abdul Haq Square area.

Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed in a post on social media that an explosion had been heard in the capital. He assured the public that “no one should worry,” adding that an investigation was underway and no casualties had yet been reported.

Local media outlet Tolo News reported that the Abdul Haq intersection was temporarily closed, causing heavy traffic congestion. Residents also said mobile phone service was disrupted in several neighborhoods following the blasts.

Unverified social media posts claimed that drones were seen over parts of the city shortly after the explosions. However, the cause of the blasts remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility so far.

The incident came just hours after Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in India for a two-day official visit — part of the Taliban government’s continuing diplomatic outreach. Russia remains the only country to have formally recognized the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing.
