Mastung, Balochistan – July 18, 2025
A Balochistan Constabulary officer was martyred and three others injured on Friday after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle near the Choto area along the National Highway in Mastung district, according to provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind.
The targeted vehicle reportedly belonged to an acting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who escaped unharmed in the attack. The injured officers were immediately shifted to Shaheed Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Hospital in Quetta for urgent medical treatment.
“According to initial reports, the acting DSP’s vehicle was targeted,” Rind said in a statement, confirming that the incident appeared to be a deliberate assault on law enforcement personnel. “A search operation is underway to apprehend the assailants, and security forces have been dispatched to the site.”
Rising Trend of Attacks on Security Forces
Friday’s ambush is the latest in a growing wave of violence targeting security personnel in Balochistan.
In April, three Balochistan Constabulary officers were martyred and at least 16 others injured in a bomb blast targeting a police vehicle on Dasht Road, also in Mastung.
Just days ago, on July 16, three people were killed and seven injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus in Kalat. Earlier this month, three highway police officers were wounded in an attack in Nasirabad district.
On July 9, a grenade attack targeted a police checkpoint at the Sibi-Harnai railway crossing gate. The grenade exploded, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
In another deadly incident on June 21, two Frontier Corps personnel were martyred and four others injured in a bomb attack in the Mongochar area of Kalat.
No Claims of Responsibility
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the recent Mastung attack, and authorities have not released details regarding the attackers’ identities or motives. The frequency and coordination of these incidents, however, point to a troubling escalation in targeted violence against security forces operating in the province.
