BADIN, July 26, 2025 — A 22-year-old woman was murdered by her grandfather in a suspected case of honour-based violence in a village near Fazil Rahu, Badin district, on Friday evening. The victim, identified as Fahmida Abro, was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon after she returned home following several days away from her family.

According to police sources, the accused — village elder Adam Abro — confessed to the killing and surrendered to the Tarai police shortly afterward. He claimed the act was carried out in response to what he described as a breach of family honour.

The incident took place in a rural settlement named after the suspect himself — Adam Abro village, located in the Fateh Abad union council of Fazil Rahu taluka. Law enforcement and emergency personnel transported the woman’s body for medical examination, and legal formalities were completed before the body was released to the family.

District police have transferred the suspect to the Model police station and are preparing to formally register a case at the Kario Ghanwer police station. Authorities have also indicated that early evidence suggests other individuals may have had knowledge of or involvement in the crime.

Local residents allege the young woman had attempted to marry a man of her choice but was reportedly deceived and returned home in the early hours of Friday. She was killed later that same day, raising further concerns about gender-based violence and so-called honour crimes in rural Sindh.

DSP Abdul Rahim Khaskheli stated that a full investigation is underway. “We are not ruling out the possibility of other suspects,” he said, adding that the case will be pursued according to the law.

The incident is the latest in a series of reported honour-related killings in the region, prompting renewed calls for stronger protections for women and stricter enforcement of existing laws against such acts.
